Make a Prototype and Test
Your Design

vegan burger and salad
Healthier children's meals can include salads.

Now it is time to make and test a prototype of your healthy meal! Your teacher will give you instructions for preparing your meals. Be sure to take a picture of your meal, if possible, and attach it to page 19 in your Engineering Portfolio.

Once your meal is made, it is time to test it! Your teacher will give you directions for testing your meal. As you test, remember to ask your taste testers for specific feedback. Use the survey on page 20 in your Engineering Portfolio, and ask additional questions that you think will help you to refine your meal. Questions include:

  • How would you rate the taste of this meal on a scale of 1-5?
  • How would you rate the look of this meal on a scale of 1-5?
  • How would you rate the packaging on a scale of 1-5?
  • Does this meal and its packaging appeal to you as much as your usual fast food meal? Why or why not?

Gather feedback in your Engineering Portfolio.

Teacher Note

Before class begins, you will need to buy the food required for your students to make their recipes-or you will need to arrange with students to buy ingredients themselves.
